Caring for Your Laminate Countertops

A little everyday care goes a long way. Laminate countertops are tough and easy to live with when you treat them kindly. Here is what we recommend for tops fabricated by Orange County Countertops.

Daily clean

Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge and warm water. For everyday messes, use a mild dish soap. Dry with a soft towel so water does not sit at seams or the backsplash.

What to avoid

• Abrasive pads, steel wool, and powdered cleansers that can scratch the surface
• Harsh solvents, oven cleaners, drain cleaners, full-strength bleach products, and other aggressive chemicals that can dull or damage the finish
• Standing water along seams, sink cutouts, and the backsplash joint
• Cutting directly on the surface — use a cutting board
• Setting hot pans, slow cookers, or air fryers straight on the top — use a trivet or hot pad

If a product’s label is not clear about laminate or plastic laminate surfaces, skip it or test in a small, out-of-the-way spot first. When in doubt, mild soap and water win.

Spills and stains

Wipe spills promptly — especially coffee, wine, mustard, food coloring, and oily liquids. For stubborn spots, a soft cloth with a cleaner labeled safe for laminate, or a paste of baking soda and water with gentle pressure, often helps. Rinse and dry.

Heat, cuts, and impact

Laminate handles daily use well, but it is not a cutting board or a stovetop. Protect it from sharp knives, dropped heavy pots, and direct heat.
